다운타운에서 버스타고 그리 멀지 않은 곳에 있던 VANDUSEN GARDEN_

맑은 공기를 가르며 뿜어내는 분수가 시원하다.

여름 한가득 꽃은 서서히 지고, 아주아주 서서히 가을을 향해 단장중_

가든 중간 중간에 꽃이나 나무 이름들을 적어둔 푯말이 이쁘고 소박하게 걸려있다.

살아 있는 모든 것들은 사랑해야 한다.. 여름의 끝자락을 카메라에 가슴에 이쁘게 담았을 커플..

벌써 겨울을 맞는 듯한 복장의 한커플.. 그들의 걸음 걸음이 사뿐사뿐.. 이쁘게 사랑하소서..

여름 끝자락이라 볼거 없다며 투덜거렸던 기억이 선명함에도.. 지금 사진을 보니.. 그저 아름답고 푸르르다..

수도 없이 많은 꽃들이 느러지게 펴있고.. 그 자태는 황홀하게 아름답고 강렬하다.

가든 한복판에 떡하니 자리잡고 있던 정자.. 어찌나 반갑고 뿌듯하던지.. 나 한국사람 맞는갑다~ ㅎㅎ

어떤 피부색을 가지고 있던.. 노년의 부부는 그저 아름답게만 보인다 나에겐..

거의 끝자락에서 만난 이곳은 늘어진 넝쿨이 선유도를 기억하게 해주었다.

많은 사람들이 이 의자에 한번쯤은 몸을 기대고 앉아 있었으리라.. 대견한 녀석..

어찌나 꼼꼼한지.. 이쁘고 아기자기하게 잘도 꾸며둔 소품들이 즐비했는데.. 왜 내 눈엔 요 녀석이 들어온걸까..

무슨 궁전에 들어가는 것 같은 느낌.. 이곳의 스토리를 담아오지 못한게.. 내내.. 아쉽다.. 여행초보자의 전형적인 모습인가?

이건 누구의 아이디어일까? 참 참신하고 이쁘지 않아?

참 걷고 싶은 길이다.. 사과도 이뻤었고.. 길가에 들꽃들도 참 이뻤다.. 백설공주가 걸었을 것 같은 길..

Maze_ 미로로 가는 입구..

나무로 미로를 만들어 뒀는데.. 생각보다 작았다.

미로 중간에 들어가서 꼭데기로 올라가 담았던 사진.. 안에서 보는 세상은.. 성안에서 성밖을 내다보는 기분이랄까? ^^

History

In 1910, this site was an isolated acreage of stumps and bush. It was owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway and was leased by the Shaughnessy Golf Club from 1911 until 1960 when the golf club moved to a new location. The railway proposed a subdivision, but was opposed by many citizens. In 1966, the VanDusen Botanical Garden Association was formed to assist the Vancouver Park Board with saving the site. This effort was successful and the land was purchased with shared funding from the City of Vancouver, the Government of British Columbia and the Vancouver Foundation with a donation by W. J. VanDusen, after whom the Garden was named.

Development started in 1971 and VanDusen Botanical Garden officially opened to the public on August 30, 1975.

Landscape development was under the direction of W. C. Livingstone from 1971 to 1976. Curator Roy Forster managed the Garden and was responsible for much of the planting design from 1977 to 1996.

The Floral Hall and Garden Pavilion were designed by Underwood, McKinley, Wilson and Smith with Herb Wilson, designer and architect. The award-winning Forest Centre was designed by Thompson, Berwick, Pratt and Partners with Paul Merrick, design architect. This building is currently used by the education department and not open to the general public.

Vision

This spectacular 22-hectare (55-acre) garden in the heart of Vancouver has matured into a botanical garden of international stature since opening to the public in 1975. The mild Vancouver climate allows the cultivation of an outstanding plant collection which is a delight any time of the year. VanDusen boasts over 255,000 plants representing more than 7,300 taxa from around the world. Our plant collections represent ecosystems that range from tropical South Africa, to the Himalayas, to the Canadian Arctic, as well as plants native to our own Pacific Northwest.

The garden design features displays of plants in picturesque landscape settings. Specific garden areas are planted to illustrate botanical relationships, such as the Rhododendron Walk, or geographical origins, as in Sino Himalayan Garden. These areas are set amidst rolling lawns, tranquil lakes and dramatic rockwork with vistas of the mountains and Vancouver cityscape.

There is always something interesting to see, no matter what the season!

VanDusen Botanical Garden provides an inspiring and enjoyable environment for visitors of all ages and interests. With its excellent collections and the beauty of their display, the Garden promotes knowledge and understanding of the world of plants and their fundamental importance to life.
